Trains
02:40
|
|||
I am 19 hours sober
I am sitting by the river bank
There’s nothing more that I need at this time
And I know there’s nothing I can do to bring your love back around
So I sit down by the river
And I wait for the sound
Of the trains
I wish upon the trains
As they pass by they take my thoughts along
Oh, the trains
I wish upon the trains
I cast my will upon them with this song
I am 13 hours sober
I am sitting by the river bank
There’s nothing more that I need at this time
And I know there’s nothing I can do to bring money back around
So I sit down by the river
And I wait for the sound
Of the trains
I wish upon the trains
As they pass by they take my thoughts along
Oh, the trains
I wish upon the trains
I cast my will upon them with this song
I am just one hour sober
I am sitting by the river bank
There’s nothing more that I need at this time
And I know there’s nothing I can do to bring sanity back around
So I sit down by the river
And I wait for the sound
Of the trains
I wish upon the trains
As they pass by they take my thoughts along
Oh, the trains
I wish upon the trains
I cast my will upon them with this song

Dark As Dusk
03:53
|
|||
It’s early April and it’s cold as December
It’s 4 pm and it’s dark as dusk
The winter’s long, it’s long as hell, son
The work is hard and it takes all day
But you know what they say
Little Billy needs a new coat this year
But Little Sally needs a new coat of paint
I never been good at making choices
But I can ride these four wheels all day
I think it’s better this way
Well they can’t understand why I did 'em like that,
But they don’t know the monkey I got on my back
And I don’t know if I got the wits to explain
Like a thief in the night, away I crept
There were a lot of things that I shoulda kept
But me and Sally, we’re gonna be alright
I left a woman out on the East coast
I lied about goin’ gettin’ cigarettes
They ask me if I’m ever going back there
I tell em that I wouldn't take that bet
And I’m a betting man
What leads a man to do what I done?
It’s true I like to have my fun,
But there’s something else that keeps me away.
What it is, I just can’t say…
And so they can’t understand why I did 'em like that
But they don’t know the monkey I got on my back
And I don’t know if I got the wits to explain
Like a thief in the night, away I crept
There were a lot of things that I shoulda kept
But me and Sally, we’re gonna be alright
Yeah, me and Sally, we're gonna be alright

4 O'clock
03:02
|
|||
It’s four o’clock pm,
The sun's setting again
And I set another drink on the table
My watch don’t tick no more
It reads seven forty four
And I’ll wind it up as soon as I am able
Yes I’ll wind it up as soon as I am able
Now I have given plenty of thought to what she told me
About how I don’t say enough how I feel
Well I’m telling her right now
If she’s listening somehow
I’ve never been better
than bitter
That’s how I feel
It's four o'clock am
The sun's rising again
And I set another drink upon the table
Couldn't tell it got so late
Nearly one-quarter to eight
Guess I got so wound up I wasn't able
Guess I got so wound up I wasn't able.
Now I have given plenty of thought to what she told me
About how I don’t say enough how I feel
Well I’m telling her right now
If she’s listening somehow
I’ve never been better
than bitter
That’s how I feel

Plowman's Lunch
03:15
|
|||
I got a berm to the left of my big V Plow
I got a windrow to my right
All I got is this Plowman’s lunch
To get me through the night
I wish I had me my old tailgate spreader
She’s waitin' for me way back home
I’d back drag that old son of a hoss
Instead of sitting here all alone
'Cause I been riding these roads since 4 am
And I don’t see an end in sight
All I got is this Plowman’s lunch
To get me through the night
That’s a stick a beef jerky and an energy shot
and you know I start to feel real nice
'Cause the people need a man like me out there
Who ain’t afraid a little snow and ice
This old rig weighs bout a ton and change
And she ain’t gonna stop on a dime
I see some headlights on the side a the road
but I just ain’t got the time
I got 200 miles o’ that fresh white dust
And it ain’t gonna plow itself
Them roads is dangerous enough out there
That’s why I gotta offer this help
'Cause I been riding these roads since 4 AM
And I don’t see an end in sight
All I got is this Plowman’s lunch
To get me through the night
That’s a little bag a chips, a little bottle of pills
and a big can of somethin’ nice
'Cause the people need a man like me out there
Who ain’t afraid a some snow and ice
Yeah I been riding these roads since 4 AM
And I don’t think it’s ever gonna end
All I got is this Plowman’s lunch
Keep me comp’ny like a faithful friend
No cheese no egg no pickle no apple
No crusty bread sliced up nice
'Cause the people need a man like me out there
Who ain’t afraid a little snow and ice
Yeah I’ll eat when I’m all done…
When I get home…
We got 6 more inches forecasted tonight by morning…
I’m gonna drop this blade and get to work…
That's KL5-4796
Let it ring!…

Black Bear Inn
03:09
|
|||
Well I was down in a town called Watervliet
With a restless mind and restless feet
I thought hey, why not myself I treat
To a beer and a good time
Took me a while and my lady said no
But I said darling, I have to go
And see what kind of music they have to show
for around these parts
I believe it was called the Black Bear Inn
On a pianny and bass a black man was playing
I found my way from the outside in
to have a listen
I looked around and felt sheepish and odd
Cause I saw a chick there with shoulders broad
Curly hair and smiling like a Jack o’ lantern, or at least
I thought I sawed her
I went up to the mic and I played my set
There was nobody and nothing for me to regret
A dude said a nice word and that was that
I left thinking what a strange little place
Though I found it kinda pretty despite its lack of grace
And I still find myself thinking of that stranger’s face from time to time
And the strangest part you know is that every year
Right around the time my birthday gets near
I see someone looks just like that appear
Like clockwork
Doesn’t matter where because she’s smiling wide
I couldn’t avoid her even if I tried
Tells me “Happy Birthday” and runs and hides
Before I can get my senses
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Happy birthday every year
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Until the day you die
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Happy birthday every year
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Until the day you die
